Magnesium anodes are used for fresh water applications; for salt or brackish water use zinc anodes or rods. All magnesium pencil anodes and rods contain a steel core. Unless otherwise noted, all rods are made to a standard anode grade of the following: 3% Aluminum, 0.2% Manganese, 1% Zinc, 95.8% Magnesium
